Crystal's Critter Care in South Brevard is caring for 14 orphaned baby raccoons, rescued from across Brevard County after losing their mothers in various circumstances.
Some pups were left behind due to relocation or removal of adults, while others were abandoned as runts.
One raccoon, found in severe distress on a roadway, highlights the urgent need for intervention.
The facility provides vital nourishment and hands-on rehabilitation, helping the young raccoons regain strength and essential survival skills ahead of their eventual release.
This process can last up to six months and costs about $700 per animal.
With no state funding, Crystal's Critter Care depends on local donations to continue its work.
Residents are urged to seek expert help with wildlife to prevent unnecessary orphaning and support these community rescue efforts.
