Over a Dozen Orphaned Baby Raccoons Rehabilitated in Brevard County |
Local wildlife rescue nurtures 14 young raccoons back to health |
In Brevard County, Florida, a significant wildlife rescue effort is underway as 14 orphaned baby raccoons are being rehabilitated at Crystal's Critter Care in South Brevard.
These young raccoons were discovered in various locations across the county, all without their mothers.
Some were left behind due to human intervention, such as the relocation or removal of adult raccoons from residential areas.
Others were abandoned as runts of their litters.
One particularly severe case involved a baby raccoon found emaciated with matted eyes, rescued from the middle of a road.
At Crystal's Critter Care, these raccoons are receiving dedicated care, including formula feeding and nourishment, to build their strength.
The rehabilitation process is expected to take approximately six months, during which the raccoons will learn essential survival skills before being released back into the wild.
The facility operates without state funding and relies heavily on donations to cover the costs of care, which can amount to around $700 per raccoon.
Community members are encouraged to support the rescue efforts through donations.
Additionally, residents are advised to contact humane trappers or wildlife rescues like Crystal's Critter Care for guidance on dealing with raccoons, to prevent orphaning young animals.
The rehabilitated raccoons are slated for release into secluded forest areas in the coming months, ensuring they have a safe environment to thrive.
Currently, the facility is at full capacity and cannot accept additional raccoons.
